IE8 Crashes when rotating a 3d model

We have a web application which shows a 3d model using the Desing Review 2011 activex plugin. This all works fine with the exception of a single machine upon which IE8 crashes with an 'Internet Explorer has encountered an error' message when attempting to rotate the model; zooming and panning are fine.

The event log shows the following:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 8.0.6001.18702, stamp 49b3ad2e, faulting module dx9_1701.hdi, version 1701.1.0.0, stamp 4b4ae554, debug? 0, fault address 0x0001f8df.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The machine has windows Xp pro Sp3.

It's not a particularly complex model and the dwf is only about 1.3meg.
We've tried it on a seemingly identically set up machine and even a much lower spec one and it works fine.

Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shed on this.
