How about non IE users?

Topic says it all. How do users of Netscape, Opera, et. al. view my stuff?

This is a problem, but Autodesk in its infinite wisdom has decreed it
not to exist. I run a web site & 20% of the viewers don't use IE, so
I'm still using Whip.

Just great. So I have to code to two types of viewer? How the heck do ya do that? All my content will be viewed from a CD-R, so I guess I could send along some directions on installing whatever viewer is appropriate, but that doesn't address the issue of what HTML to use depending on target browser. Besides, AD has yanked all the WHIP versions from their site, I had to scrounge it from some site in Europe...

IE6 is full of bugs.

My target client is facilities ops at Arizona State University East, and I'll bet their IT guys would NOT be happy if I did this...

Whip was still right there, last I looked
ftp://adeskftp.autodesk.com/webpub/whip/english/whip4.exe

True, you can't get there from the original link. You can try fussing
at Autodesk -- I've been that route, but it hasn't worked for me.

Autodesk and most other web content of the planet supports the majority, IE.
Thank to AOL, Netscape is vanishing rapidly. Nothing you can do as an end
user, as Autodesk has decided to only spend their money to support the
majority and get maximum bang for their bucks.

Nothing to do with which program is better or worse, pure economics, you
said it yourself: 20% don't spend as much as the other 80%. The days of
freebies and free support are long gone.

Add browser detection code to your first html page
and then direct them to the appropriate version.
