Jagged lines

My bump maps have jagged lines and I want them to be clean and sharp. Is there anyway I can do this without increasing the size of the paint layer ( All paint layers are 4k ).

Are you extracting normal maps? If so, have you tried adjusting the settings in the extract operation? Such as enabling Anti-Aliasing? Or are you just saving an actual grayscale bump map from hand painting it in Mudbox? If so, you might have to take it into Photoshop and try some filters to reduce anti-aliasing, but it also largely depends upon the size of the texture, how large the bump pattern is, and how that relates to your UV size.

You could also try a subtle blur of the bump texture in Mudbox - which works like smoothing. Or you could convert your bump to a normal map and extract it using anti-aliasing.
