Clean UV set up

Ok so I'm creating a spider-man model and I'm in the phase where I need to texture and paint it. A administrator on this site suggested that I do a really clean UV setup for my mudbox model, then displace the geometry with it, but my problem is that I've never worked with UVs before so can you guys help me out or direct me to some really good tutorials, thanks.

Thanks i've made an account on digital tutors so hopefully I'll be able to learn how to make UVs using either 3ds max or uvlayout

I've seen UVlayout and it's quite useful, however the process of making UVs is a headache but i think i should be able to complete it soon

One more question, is pelt mapping effective when it comes to making UVs?

Message 10 of 15

Yes if you're using Max. Although Peel is a better option most of the time (it's newer and offers more intuitive controls). But both are pretty effective ways to unfold complex organic forms.

I seem to be having another problem, when I export my mudbox model back into mudbox, all my sculp detail is lost and there is no way to retain it. Is there a way to fix this problem?

you could just import the uvs...

file --> import uvs

Is Maya another good way to get a UV?

Finished texturing my model and now it's ready for rigging. Thanks for the help guys. P.S Rigging isn't hard right? I've never done it before.
