Lessons For Preparing A 3D CAD Model for Inventor

I've been working with CAD Inventor software for several years and the first thing you need to do when preparing a CAD Model is to determine what type of units you need to design your 3D Model properly. After establishing whether you want to use Standard or Metric units you need to open a new part file. This is where you want to start before you begin to design assemblies. Inventor Assemblies are composed up of several parts that work together to create one design. We'll discuss these in further lessons.
After opening a new drawing the first and most important process to begin your 3D Model is to make all of your working planes visible. You can do this by opening the Origin File located on the left side of the screen in the Model Tree. The Model Tree is where all the processes throughout the design are listed in chronological order beginning with your first sketch.
After expanding the Origin file you can see the YZ, XZ, and XY Planes colored Grey because they are not visible yet. To make these working planes visible right click and select the option visibility. This will make the selected work plane visible and give you something to sketch on. The importance of this is that these planes can be used with several of the commands that allow you to design complex 3D Models.
These planes become extremely useful when trying to use commands like mirroring, revolving and so on. We'll discuss these commands later on in another lesson. Another advantage of having these planes visible allows you to sketch on any of them which becomes very helpful in a number of different situations when creating your 3D Model with CAD Inventor. Practice using these planes to sketch on and we'll discuss them in more detail later on in the lessons that follow. If you have any questions regarding 3D Planes for Inventions on CAD software please don't hesitate to ask. With all due respect, this is not the proper place for posting lessons on Inventor. For Inventor specific content, please refer to : http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=78
You will get useful feedback about your lessons if you post where the Inventor users post, not here.
