Title: Product Designer- AutoCAD/ AutoCAD LT
Location: San Rafael, CA

Position Summary
As a Product Designer, you will lead the design process for new features and tools in AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. You will be responsible for analyzing market and user requirements, creating conceptual models from your analyses, and fully articulating detailed user interface designs that incorporate ideas and input from other members of cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Serve as a bridge between development and customers. Analyze market requirements and Use Cases provided by Product Management. Gather requirements from users and analyze market segment requirements to design features that enhance and solve customer problems. Use understanding of customer needs and workflow to propose strategic enhancements to company products.
Receive product scope from marketing organization and distill it into a set of features that will benefit customers in the most efficient way. May assist marketing with scope development. Author physical documents using text, diagrams, illustrations, and/or prototypes to outline product, feature, and function specifications. Partner with development team to drive successful implementation of product design specifications. Responsible for delivering specification document to be used by a wide number of audiences such as Development, Test, Technical Publications and Marketing. Review test plans and documentation to ensure feasibility.
Communicate and facilitate discussions with groups of customers, developers, and product marketers and make presentations to drive resolution on proposed features and functionality. Validate product themes and conceptual designs.
Meet and collaborate with customers and development partners to design and validate product features. May travel to customer sites as necessary to gather information on customer needs.
Gather usability information from customers of current and/or proposed products to aid in development of proper product and ensure a superior customer experience. Research usability of proposed features by coordinating and facilitating usability tests and customer interaction events. Validate specification content with target customers.
Maintain familiarity with other company products and competitive products to ensure compatibility with proposed feature sets.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

At least three to five years experience as a product designer or user interaction designer for software products running on Windows.
Demonstrated excellence in designing or implementing innovative products actually shipping or posted on the Internet.
Experience in user research and user-centered design techniques, including formal usability testing design and reporting.
Experience in prototyping, programming, or scripting in at least one programming language or prototyping environment, preferably Macromedia Flash.
Significant presentation skills.
Desired Knowledge/Skills

A degree in a Design field, Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant field, or equivalent experience.
A thorough understanding of Windows user interface design standards.
Prefer some experience designing one or more of these application types: CAD; 3D modeling or rendering, technical drawing or illustration, other graphics applications.
Qualities

Demonstrated excellence in technical communications, including visual (written and illustrated) and oral presentations.
Demonstrated track record of successful participation in multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to generate clear product ideas and designs that focus on customer problems and solutions.
Ability to adapt to changing market and customer conditions and create new user-centered design techniques and methods.
Be personable and diplomatic, earning a consensus using persuasion and clarity of thought.
