replication

I have seen the topic of file replication come up here now and then and I
have a few questions about it.

1) If you set a large partition to replicate to another server off site, and
then you do some sort of change that effects all of the files like, rename a
folder high up the tree or, change folder security or something similar,
does that ever cause the whole volume to re-copy? it seems to me something
like that may bring even a good connection to a standstill?

2) Are there limits on the sizes of volumes to replicate?

3) does anyone see one software is better than others?

4) how about just using windows DFS?



Does anyone have any input on any of these?
