I am in a discussion group and when converting PDF to AutoCAD comes to the table there are no good answers. So that said, what is the best solution or software out there?

While a lot of PDFs do only contain an image, many often contain vectors
and some contain text.

Try the demos and report your findings. Here is a candidate to start
with http://www.dotsoft.com/pdf2dwg.htm.

you assume the pdf has info you will like. Zoom in close to see that clean lines are not so nice like in Cad.
I tell people to convert to jpg via adobe acrobat full version ($300), then pull in image.
I don;t like using dwf or pdf underlay, as it just makes dwgs more fancy, with less compatibility, and less liklihood to
plot correctly. Stick to dwg's and images IMO.

I have used raster design by autodesk and it was pretty good.

oh, never noticed it could do that, i'll check.
That pdf to image conversion is a bottleneck for many things. We use Acroplot Repro for pdf to super nice BW tif's for
plotting on oce plotters. Tifs (or rasters I should say) are the only format for dependable plotting on other peoples
plotters.

If the pdf contains vector data, then we use Adobe Illustrator to export this as a dwg- it'll then need some work to tidy it up, but is good for basic stuff.

If it's a raster image then simply export as jpeg.

[www.PDFTIFF.com|http://www.pdftiff.com] it works great for converting multipage pdf into tiff but also will layout up to 8 pages of the file into 1 sheet for easy insert of engineering reports into your plan set. Try it for free. Edited by: taccomc on Apr 12, 2010 3:41 PM
