Software Dilemma -Advice?

Awhile back, I tried to start a new LUG in my area. Autodesk's LUG
handbook offers a lot of things, one of which is any registered LUG is
given 5 pieces of software of their choice to use as raffle prises, door
prises, giveaway's etc. They also offer to send out a notice to the
local users in your area about your existance. Well, to make a long
story short, I registered, I requested the sofware, I requested the
email blast, fax blast, whatever. I held 3 "meetings" even tho my
repeated requests to Autodesk for the notices to be send never happened.
The LUG is a failure. I have no way of finding all the users, even tho I
had a sponsor who provided space, food and beverage for the meetings.

Now, I still have some NFR software sitting here, but it's un-opened,
unused, and unregistered. I emailed Autodesk for guidance on what to do
with the software, I offered several times to return it and have been
met with the same silence I got with the requests for meeting notices
being sent (which they offered, originally).

So, I'd like y'all's opinion. As Autodesk has failed to respond over the
last several months, they obviously are telling me (quietly) to just
keep the software. OK, fine. I get the message, and it's legally mine.
Offers to return rescinded. So... what do you guys think? Can I sell
this software? I sure don't need all of it..... I'll might want to keep
2 of the 5 for myself. And why not?

Your opinion please.

Thanks!

just my opinion, but why do you need to ask to return the software? Just
return it wence it came from and be done with it.

Or, live by the rules of the original deal. Have another meeting, sell 5
tickets to everyone there (you), have a drawing, and the software is yours.

whatever you think is right...

Are you giving up completely? I help run a LUG in San Antonio and must admit
it requires substantial effort to make it work. But it pays off since we
usually have 65-70 attendees. Where are you located? Do you have a local
reseller or two who would assist in mailing to their database? Perhaps they
would buy dinner as well. Some do.

I'm sure there are other user groups who would be happy to get that software
for their own give-aways.

You are probably OK with it being yours, and you would be OK to give it
away, but I don't think you could sell it. That's what the NFR means, Not
For Resale. So, keep what you want, and give the rest to someone else who
can use it. You might even find someone here who would pay for shipping 😉
Or, hold on to it and try to get the UG going later.

Just my $0.02.

Tried that... asked several times for an AU to return it, never got a
reply.

Woke up about 3:30 last night with the answer.
I'll "raffle" them.
Since a UG's membership is not restricted in scope, anyone anywhere can
join.
So, I'll simply "raffle" them to the "member" who buys the greatest
amount of raffle tickets for that particular raffle. So there won't be
any disgruntled losers, that member will, for the "donation" offered, be
sold the number of raffle tickets he/she offered to buy, and the raffle
sales for that raffle will be closed immediately. No more sales for that
raffle! Guaranteed win because he/she bought all the raffle tickets for
that raffle!
Ingenious! I meet AUGI's conditions for software use, made some funds
for the UG's treasury, and everyone is happy.

What do you all think?
