Search Tool for WinXP

I'm looking for a better alternative for the "Search" tool in WinXP Pro

WinXp's "search" tool doesn't find as many files as our Win95 machine.

We need a tool that will search out words in files.

Thank you

Turn on WinXP's indexing service - Start - Search - With Indexing - turn it
on, let it run. Should improve your searches dramatically.

WinXP has a lot of folders excluded from searches by default.

(Try to find an outlook .pst file on a default installation of XP. )

You can go into search options and set it up correctly.

"We need a tool that will search out words in files"

Start-->Search-->For Files and Folders-->All FIles and Folders...second
field down on teh right side of the window will search for files that
contain and word or phrase.

Like the other posts say, you may have to adjust your options

Within my XP, I go to start/search, select all files and folders, and it
gives me an option to search for 'A word or phrase in the file:'

Keep in mind that words in drawing files are compressed and won't show
up with Windows Search.

If you're searching DWG files, you may want to check out this iFilter (free
version):
http://www.cad-company.nl/ifilter/

Says it supports Win2kPro, no mention of XP.

I like the one these guys make - it's a bit clunky, but it's free, pretty
fast and it works.
