Mini_Forums for the Non AU less fortunate

Why doesn't AutoDesk do Mini-Forums
throughout the U.S. or Move AU around
each year for the smaller firms to get
involved like Bentley does...

Just seems kindof funny.. because the other guys
are doing it with what seems to be great success...

also u don't get all vendors u focus on vendors in that
area...

and the smart ppl who can teach have to step up.. i would just like to see autodesk say that they would get involved...

and the central illinois users group did a small tidbit with lynn allen a few years ago and would be nice to do again... i need to call my contact there and see what can be done....

Or step up, personally get involved and help to make it happen...

The year AU was regional I still working as a part-time ACI at a local
ATC... I was also asked to be a speaker and to be on a panel, etc. I
could not take the time off to attend the 4 functions. I did attend the
regional AU that was considered local, I have to agree with James, it
wasn't worth the 2 hour drive each way.

I agree, Autodesk should consider possibly moving it around the country
and also possibly altering the timing (between Thanksgiving &
Christmas.. for those that celebrate) is a fairly hectic time of the
year with all the family functions and also traditionally projects at
work are sometimes deadlined for the end of the year. BUT with all
things considered they are attempting to provide the best venue for the
price. Las Vegas is fairly cheap to fly to, that week is traditionally
the slowest booking time for Vegas and considering the amount of
training, the quality of training, the facilities, food & beverage,
etc... it is WELL worth the price.

Other than the additional price of the plane fair what does location
have to do with it? or would you company pay for the event if it were
local and $1045 vs. $1245? a $200 difference for 4 nights of
accommodations? I doubt it.

NY, Boston, Atlantic City, Williamsburg VA are all within driving distance
for me. All I'd have to do is get Boss to spring for the $1,000 tuition. No
room I could camp nearby. This might be possible. Not likely but possible.
Ask for $1295 plus airfare from NY to Las Vegas. No Way!

Yes, of course, however....

I went to a small/local AutCAD seminar when R14 was about to be released. It was in Houston, Texas, put on by AutoDESK to show off the new release. There were two kinds of attendees, those who knew more ab out the software than the hosts and those who had no clue what was being said. It was an interesting morning.

There is an Augi group in NJ that runs an annual summer event. The first three years of it, they dd it as a one night event, and built the attendance up to about 400 people. Then this year, tehy triied to make the leap to a 2 day mini AU (I like to call it AutoDesk Community College, myself, but that didn't catch on). Unfortunately, a number of unrelated events conspired to cost tehm a lot of their expected attendance. And, of course, there were a few minor glitches as part fo the learning process. But, stil, it wa sa reasonably good event, and I for one am hoping that they will do it again next year. If you can get to northern NJ, I suggest that you contact them now, while you are thinking about it, and get your name on their mailing list. webmaster@njaug.org or http://www.njaug.org

I went to the first MechanCAD in Chicago at the Drake Motel. It was
absolutely fantastic. If I remember right it was a 3 day event and cost me
about $800 of money well spent. The classes seemed to be quite full and
everyone else seemed to enjoy it too. It was nice also, because it was
specific to the mechanical (read non-arhcie/HVAC) industries.

I don't know why they stopped it, but I wish they'd do it again. :O)

Have fun,
Dave

As my boss said "We sure the he** aren't going to pay over $1000 to send
your *** to Vegas!" For me, just the fact that it's in Vegas has ruled me
out.

I'm glad they did, it kept me awake. It's embarassing to fall out yer chair in front of a crowd.

Just this past August was the North East Cad Show
held in Parsippany NJ (I think).  It was a two day event that included a
large trade show floor with many vendors, classes all day for both days and
evening auditorium guest speakers (Lynne Allen, Ed Goldstein, Ellie Moss,
Barbara Goulde and others (please exuse any incorrect spelling of the speakers),
all along with free lunches, dinners and live music on the trade
floor.

NJAUG (New Jersey Autodesk Users Group) was the
main force behind putting it all together, although we had user group
sponsorship and attendance from Baltimore to Boston and out to
Pittsburgh.

I'm sure (maybe) that the same will happen next
year, so keep your eyes and ears open for information. Feel free to contact
Tom Sutton who is the president of NJAUG for more information on what is
happening.

Woops, JUST NOTICED C.PRETTYMAN'S post but I'll
still post this.

Thanks!
