Mini_Forums for the Non AU less fortunate

Why doesn't AutoDesk do Mini-Forums
throughout the U.S. or Move AU around
each year for the smaller firms to get
involved like Bentley does...

I would recommend checking out the Autodesk Users Group International
(AUGI) and see if there are any Local Users Groups (LUGs) in your
area...

http://www.augi.com

Some of the LUGs put on excellent seminars, have guest speakers and have
great agendas.

Autodesk did have a 4? part Autodesk University a few years back.
The feedback from the attendees, vendors and instructors was all
pointing to having one large annual event and I don't think that will
change (and I for one hope not)

I am fine with the Big event also.. but a few around the country that are smaller would be great... or even if they moved au around...

Battin' for both teams, eh?

Seriously though, I'd like to attend some kind of
forum or mini AU because I can't get to Vegas.  Could maybe swing something
regional for me like New York or Boston.  I think you have a good
idea.

My previous post should have been read: They tried this, it wasn't
successful...

Seriously check into the LUGs...

e.g.: Although I am not a member, I know the NJAUG just sponsored a
User's Group Show in August, which had many learning sessions... I
wonder how successful it was?

What's the point of getting to company to put out so I can go 10 blocks away to AU? (if NY)

*I* think Hawaii would be ideal.... or perhaps San Diego.

My point was that my company won't/can't afford to send us.

I've always wished they would at least alternate coasts each year.

See what i mean there are ppl whose firms are just small enough that sending one person to au isn't feesable...

and the smaller ones would be great.. and it seems the both
the user groups in my area are gone.. or just to busy.. but if autodesk steped up and would offer some support... classes.. gifts.. etc...etc... that would be awesome...

i bet even some of the local retailers would get in on it....

Where you are located?

I agree with you on having more locally - btw if some day this happen please
do one here in San Diego, Ca.

I never had the chance to attend to one, but instead I offered the
possibility for a visual lisp reactors class demonstration and the good
people from LAAUG gave me the opportunity, went there for more than a three
hours time... Maybe this type of presentations by the local users can be
promoted too...

As Tracy says, they tried this one year and it bombed. Attendance was poor,
instructors didn't teach at all of them, vendors were scarce. Then the next
year they said, let's try Vegas. It was the first AU that sold-out. That's
all it took for the bean counters to decide that Vegas was the choice.
Generally Vegas is cheaper to get to and stay in than most other major
cities (at least for the companies sending attendees, you're gambling money
pays for the discounts). Regardless of the city, the mojority of the cost
goes to the conference itself, so having it closer to you doesn't
necessarily make it cheaper. So Vegas it is...

True- but I think the cost would be about the same if it was close by anyway. I don't think the
"A la carte" would be a heck of a lot cheaper. So if the company isn't going to pay $1295 for
Vegas, it likely won't pay $1000 if it was next door either.

The only extra would be airfare- even if it *was* in Boston or some other nearby city.

At a former job, I used to have to go to St.Louis for engineering
meetings (our engineering group was headquartered out there)

http://tinyurl.com/npx2

I attended a Rockwell Automation (Allen Bradley, etc...) Fair out
there. It was held at the America's Center & Trans World Dome... very
nice place for a conference.

To answer your question, they did. One year. It was god awful. Vendors hated
the hassle, speakers are mostly private consultants, and traveling to four
shows was tough. Attendance was down, there was little to no networking
since everyone went home at the end of the day.

It just stank.
