Master Specifcations

Does anyone know of any other software packages similar to Masterspec and
SpecLink. A list would be nice to have.

I took a quick peek at this MasterSpec after seeing your post because we
need a way to keep our specs in order also, but it isn't the most
informative website. Could you explain briefly how it works?

We're just looking for some way to keep a master list of our own individual
specifications. We don't need all the pre-written specs for archies,
structural, site development, etc... We just need to be able to update our
own specs. Does MasterSpec allow you to do that?
Thanks for any info.

Oops, nevermind..dug around a little more and found some more info. But if
anyone has any first-hand experiences with it, I'd be interested to hear
them.

Kirsten,

I've used Masterspec (product of AIA) to assist with specs for several
building projects. It's a good tool to dig around in when you're
writing specs because it is one source to go to for info on industry
standard references (ASTM etc) with explanatory info to review as
well. And, to go to when you're writing a new spec section that you
haven't done before.

I don't recommend using it directly as your "master" for every
project, because editing it would be too time consuming. It is a help
with maintaining your own office master because it is updated
regularly.

You don't say what type of work you're doing and that would weigh in
on whether it is appropriate for your type of company or use.

You might try Linx, which is a front end question/answer type of
application that writes the specs based on your answers.

I just install the products and do not use them, but we have both the
MasterSpec and SpecLink+ here. The guys who use them prefer the SpecLink+
far above the MasterSpec. Or least that is what they tell me! I like the
installation and operation of SpecLink better too.
Updating seems to be easier also.

We too, have a few seats of spec link, but we however are not yet well
versed in its use. I hearing that there is some complexity in using the
package. Is that true?...can someone else tell me how they feel about that.

Also while we are on the subject, does anyone have info on formatting specs
for certain jobs for placing the specs within the drawing set.
