yes, we have one. We hate it. It was fine at first, but has been very unreliable, and the print quality has gotten much worse.

Yes. We like ours. Just make sure you have a good tech to do the work on it.
Our's is on a lease to buy contract so maintenance is included. We have them
out to clean it regularly and it keeps it running well. Make sure you get a
Kip that's sized for your needs as well.

We have a KIP 5000 and I won't get another one. Print quality is not
consistant. We have already worn out the main toner controler and it took 2
months to get in the part. We only had the plotter for 3 months. It is
running fine now, but it required twice the maintance than our Xerox 510
did. When this lease is up i will go back to the Xerox. Our maintance guy
is great, but he too has said that it has more problems than the Xerox's do.

we use OCE. our reseller says Kip is good, but for low volume. if you need a
workhorse, it will become a maint. nightmare.

We are looking for a new MFP plotter also. Have not heard to many good things about KIP. What about HP T1100? Canon IFP?

We have a kip 5000, with copy/scan. This is our Second one, it's an ok machine. I find that the people changing the paper/toner actually cause more maint issues, then anything else. We added a stacker on this one, which made a huge difference.

I'd get another.

we have a kip 3000, what do you want to know? the way it does job accounting is a little arcane, and in my case users are able to somehow print jobs with no account, even though it is set up to require them...

We are having a hard time find some specs on the kip3000. can you comment on reliability, severability, parts? how about overall cost of operations (real life)? Is it true that you can't have it with in 24" of a wall? Why do they put in a warning about ozone, is it that much higher then others?

We lease it for a fixed price per sq. ft. and the toner and paper are supplied as part of the lease. They come out and do PM on it regularily, too. The lease is lower than what we bill on it, plus non-billable stuff, so that was a no brainer. In the three years we've had it, it has only been down once for an extened period, the motherboard went out, and it took almost a week to get it back up. I just checked, and ours is exactly 24 inches from the wall, never noticed it before, could have something to do with how the paper comes out the back and down into the tray? Every once and a while the paper does get hung up going into the output bin and it's nice to be able to get behind it without having to move too much.
As far as ozone goes, all laser-type printers carry the warning, and I'm not aware of the KIP being any worse than others?

I know some people like them but I wouldn't use a KIP if it was free.

We had a KIP 6000, not exactly the model you have, but none the less a KIP product. My opinion....I would go with an OCE. The KIP broke down on a regular basis, we have had the repair tech here numerous times. The KIP has a tendency to eat up corona wires and other parts. We have now switched to OCE and we could not be happier. We have had the OCE since November and have had only 1 service call on it. I bet OCE would cut you a good deal, they did with us after we told them that we were looking at Xerox next with KIP being last on the list. Cheers !!

Isn't OCE a rebadged of someone else. I heard the their smaller MFP were really Brothers.

I don't think they are a rebadge of someone else's product. I know most of the major print houses and such use OCE. I have used a bunch of different plotters and I can't find anything to beat the OCE. Check out OCE's website.

The bottom line is for me, I don't have to have the KIP tech out every three weeks. A running machine is a good thing.

I've been thinking about the KIP 3000 with the color scanner to replace my
KIP 2000 with the B&W scanner. I will say that when we first got our 2000 we
had all sorts of problems getting it to work on our network. After about a
month, things finally got worked out and it's been plugging along ever
since. We did have a lot of service on it in the earlier days, but even that
has lessened as the years have gone by. I used to say I would never get
another KIP system, but since we have reduced our in house plotting out put,
and the fact that the 3000 system has a color scan option (and the fact that
we are paying the repro house $40 for a large color scan on a disk) I'm
hoping that the 3000 will work at least as well as the 2000 system has. The
other plus of the 3000 system that I really need because we are moving our
office to a smaller facility, is the foot print size. Our current system
takes a large amount of floor space, as does all the OCE systems I've seen,
whereas the 3000 is stacked up nice and neat with a rather small over all
foot print. I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot by getting another
KIP.

Originally we were looking at getting a whole new system, but we just had a service guy come for old HP1050 (first time in 5 years) and he said there is plenty of life left in that plotter. So now we are talking about just getting a 40" scanner and hooking them together, that way down the road if one goes bad we can just replace it and not the whole thing. And yes we are a small company and don't run a lot of prints like a few others have mentioned.

WE have a KIP 3000 after using an XEROX for so many years and it works great. The only problem I would say sometimes the paper gets backlogged behind the machine and you have to manual get them all before they pile up. But overall, the images come out great and line work looks decent.
