IP Monitoring?

Just wondering if anyone have a recommendation for an IP monitoring software that can run as a service.
I would like some sort of reporting, like to plot uptime and when there are connection interruptions.
I would also like it to email notify me if an ip went down, say an internal server/device

Any recommendations?

Hey David;

A short but diligent search revealed this freebie:
http://tinyurl.com/amflc

But you get what you pay for - at least you've got a jumping off point.

And then there's the $14.95 model:
http://tinyurl.com/csgow which includes part of the functions you wanted.

Thankx but I think you misunderstand what I am looking for
I need it to check to see if my branch offices are on the net and if
all my servers are up and running. I need a server monitor.
But I figured the simple thing would be to check to see if an ip is valid.
I can ping the internal ip address of the firewall in another office. If i can do that, it
means a few things. My internet access is working, the remote office net access is working
and the WAN is working. I need to be notified when things are not working.

Hey David;

I'm thinking the $15 price tag would get you what you want. The freebie only
allows you to "ping" a URL address only every 6 hours. The paid for model
allows you to Ping every few minutes. I was wondering if you have a Company
Website that you could Ping every few minutes. If you consider that you
would only need one copy per remote location, then it still sounds like a
fairly inexpensive means to get what you want. Each office times $15 to have
a copy that will Ping the Company website every few minutes, and inform you
of any abnormalities through email. I'm sure you could come up with
something more elegant, but then it would most likely cost a bit more.

I downloaded the freebie and tried it out, with no ill effects - so I
wouldn't worry too much about them being a front for a new worm. Unless the
timer is ticking even now. 🙂

I'm up to date with my Virus Checking SW, so I felt fairly sure that I
wasn't going too far out on a limb to test it.

You might check out this freebie (I plan to):

I've used their free deleted file recovery tool and their smart card
recovery tool with good success. And no spyware/virus that I can find...

This may be too simple of a solution but I would think it would work (if
your running windows at both locations) Turn on MSN Messenger (or install
something like it - ICQ, Yahoo Chat...) at both locations and turn on login
/ logout notification on the computer that you want to monitor from. As soon
as the computer goes down you'll get a pop up that someone on you "buddy
list", in this case your remote server, logged off. When it comes back up
it'll tell you it's logged in.

Nice W-A, Jason - I like it.

But you've not spent any funds, how can we budget for it? 🙂

I'm not sure about this one....

I don't know if it's out network ir what but we have people popping in and
out of IM all the time. My cellmate is sitting there and it pops her out.
And Waaaay off-topic is that MS needs to fix IM to let you know when a
person logs IN and when they log OUT (again , unless it is our network).

Let me know how it goes. From the other software they offer (for free), it
appears to be good stuff. After my original post, one of our users emailed
me from his vacation to Hawaii in a panic because his SD card full of
vacation pics was suddenly saying "No Pictures found". I recommended their
Smart Card recovery thing and he just reported back that it worked like a
charm - vacation memories saved. Then he brought me rum!
