Hotfix vs Migration Tool

Hello all,

We're all running plain jane Vanilla AutoCAD 2005 here. Recently , a few Staff Architects have been taking some files home to be worked on, and they're using 2007. They save the file down to a 2004 drawing, and occasionally they get this error...

ARX_ERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass
After doing some searching I found the hotfix for it, and that seemed to work.

What I'm wondering, is there any difference between using this hotfix verses using the Migraton Tool that AutoDesk provides us. (I don't have 2007 to try it on my own...)

Thoughts, comments, suggestions, use up bandwidth to your pleasure.

I should clarify something. The make their changes in 2007, save down to a 2004 version, and then when they come here, they open in 2005.

the migration tool is just to bring settings forward from the release you're
upgrading from. a hotfix is to fix a small bug in the new program. (unless
i'm just *totally* misreading the question, if I am, feel free to ignore
me).

What are they using at home?
ADT 2007 or ACAD 2007?

ACAD 2007. (Probably an illegal copy....)

I refuse to let them use any ADT product.

Not that migration tool.....

There's one that Autodesk released that allows you to convert an '07 drawing to a lower version. It's a free tool outside of AutoCAD. I could have sworn it was called a migration tool, but it might be called something else.

riiight. good... so, it was just a wording issue... not me being entirely stupid. 😉 i'm always relieved at that.

I actually just used TrueConvert for the first time Wednesday... easy-peasy. I didn't look at the end result files, but, I haven't heard any complaints or questions, so it must have been alright.

good luck...

Odd. We use ADT and this message arises when you do a Saveas vs. and Export
to earlier releases.

You are screwing the files if you round trip from 2007 to 2004 format.
The "Export to AutoCad" command explodes the AEC objects, thus ruining things in LDT and other verticals.

The crazy thing is you have to open the drawings to run the Export to Autocad command.
You cannot use converters that batch through files. So get ready to script things if you want to try converting a lot
of files.

The only loophole is that the etransmit command in LDT has an option to "save as 2004 format with exploded AEC objects".
That option is the ONLY way to convert a bunch of drawings without opening them. Only problem is etransmit will not
modify files in place, it copies them to somewhere.

I have harped on this issue for years now and its ignored. I want the batch drawing converter or whatever the latest
convert tool is, to allow me to explode the AEC objects. Autodesk has swept this one under the carpet. Inexcusable if
you ask me. They should have more pride than to ignore this one.
