Exception when starting A2012 from batch file

Hello,

Running command:

c:\progra~1\...\acad.exe

from a batch file causes Acad to crash with "exception in acmgd.dll arx command"

(win xp pro)

The same command run from a DOS command window works OK

The same command run for Acad2008 or 2004 runs OK too.

Anyone seen this?

Any help will be much appreciated.

alex

Search around, there are dozens of posts for this old error and your old software. Here is one of many I found in less than 30-seconds with a Google search: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Exception-in-acmgd-dll-ARX-Command-Unhandled-Ex...

Pendean,

I did search and found all these posts. I even followed the instructions about NET .config files permissions etc.

But as I wrote, there is nothing wrong with my old software (2 years old Autocad to be exact).

It runs OK when started from the desktop or from a DOS box.

It's only when I try to start it from a batch file thet this happens.

Than you,

alex

Can you post the contents of your batch file? Keep in mind I haven't had ancient XP in quite a few years now (and you should be getting rid of it soon).

Sure. Here it is, essentially a single line:

C:\Progra~1\Autodesk\AUTOCA~1\Acad.EXE

This is the only form which runs at all, albeit with the above errors.

But never mind that. I gave up on the batch file and wrote a little program in C# to do the job.

The question of the reasons for the problems above remains open.

Thanks,

alex

I found a cure, I didn't find the disease.

Thanks for the sympathy.

I've never run a batch file with Tilde marks but with full paths there is no issue. If that's all your batch file really contained (I don't believe it) perhaps that was your problem.

This format (DOS short paths) is the only format it would run at all (for paths containing spaces in the name).

All other ways (enclosing the full path in quotation marks, or enclosing only the names containing spaces, would not run at all from the batch file (as opposed to the command line).

Never mind, with DOS finally phased out, it remains an academic issue, albeit an intriguing one.
