DropBox, Buzsaw, Microsoft SharePoint, Autodesk Vault...
(maybe Autodesk Vault doesn't fit in this list?)
In concidering Riverbed technology for Project CAD file sharing between remote offices, does DropBox, Buzsaw, SharePoint fit in the picture?
Are there others besides DropBox, Buzsaw or MS SharePoint?
Which is the better solution?
The BIG BIG drawback to Box and Dropbox (and we use these in our office extensively) and others like those is there's no protection for "file in use" that I've found. If you start editing a file, someone else has no idea.
And don't try putting your vault on the dropbox, that's asking for trouble I think. Not to mention size can quickly become an issue.
"... If you start editing a file, someone else has no idea."
I don't know much at all about Drop Box... Is the idea that you open AutoCAD drawing file 'directly' from Drop Box?
AutoCAD places a 'dwl' file in the same location as the drawing file being edited. Are you saying that multiple people can edit the same file without the typical indication from AutoCAD that you can open as read-only?
And... is there not record kept of who edited or when the edit was made?
dropbox isn't a data management tool its a file sharing tool
so no it doesn't do that
