Drawing file issues (we call it the Atari syndrome)

We have some drawings that are corrupt, but I have
not idea what is causing the file to be corrupt.  When these files are
opened they look fine but once you go to model space or zoom the display goes
into what we call the Atari symdrome, see attached.  These drawings can not
be worked on at all on any of the pc's in office.  Anyone ever see this
before??

Attached file is showing the issue, the top image
is what we get when we start to work on the drawing, the bottom image is what it
should be.

Thanks

PacMan needs to rise up +5 in the y-axis, get the
cherry, and double back on the ghost @-4,-2.  😃

You're not alone.  I've seen this many times,
with many different machines and video cards, and many different drawings.
I usually take it as a sign to reboot the computer.  Sadly I do not
know what causes it, or an actual fix... but you're not
alone.

The Atari syndrome?  I LOVE that description
had me just about falling off my chair.  Seriously though I know what the
problem is and it can be fixed quite easily.  There is a system variable
called "WHIPTHREAD"  This controls how hyperthreaded processors are sent
information during operations like ZOOM or others involving the display in
ACAD.  Try setting the "WHIPTHREAD" to 0 when you have a drawing displaying
the "ATARI Syndrome."

Try changing the WHIPTHREAD system variable to whatever it isn't (0
instead of 1).

scratching my head and the dual core processor did not even come to mind,
I was thinking video card all the way.
