Complex linetypes using shape file disappearing?

I maybe missing some system variable or something...

I have a drawing that uses complex Linetypes with shape files.
1. I load the linetypes.
2. The linetypes appear correctly.
3. I save and close the drawing.
4. I open the drawing back up and the linetypes only show a blank space where the shape would be.

The support paths are set to see the .shx and the .lin files.

I'm using Civil 3D 2007 sp3

Thanks in advance.

LIN files don't have to be in the support file search path. Once a
linetype is loaded, it's embedded in the drawing. Do you mind posting a
portion of the drawing that contains the linetype in question, and the
SHX file?

Here are the files.

It just seems like the shx files are purged after closing the drawing. ???????????????

I've never seen this before.

Never seen this either.

I was able to load your drawing, and reload the linetype and get the
"X-WATER" linetype to display OK, then save the drawing and reopen it
and it was still OK.

If you open the unaltered drawing that you posted and run this bit of
lisp code:

(cdr (assoc 340 (entget (tblobjname "ltype" "x-water"))))

...it will return the entity name to the style (a loaded SHAPE file is
stored as a TEXTSTYLE table object). But in your unaltered drawing this
"STYLE" is invalid (entity name of "0")

To me, it looks like the STYLE (shape) was somehow purged even though a
dependent linetype still exists. Why your system is doing this over and
over is beyond me....

See attached image for a view of the "STYLE" that is really the
referenced shape file. This is in a 'copy' of your drawing after I
reloaded the linetype and saved, closed, and reopened the drawing.

Now I've been aware of the Deskers recommending a "Clean installation of
Land Desktop 2007" on the Knowledge Base to get things back to a hunky-dory
state.

I just checked the KB to see whether there was the same type of advice for
C3D 2K7:
http://tinyurl.com/yu86wn

And so now may I suggest that you follow through with that Tech Support
article jstew, so that you can get things back on track, as it were?

Don,
Thanks for the advice. However, it's drawing specific. Not the installation. It's actually one of my clients drawings that was sent to me. I've been able to wblock the specific lines out to it's own drawing and the shape files are retained.
I really think it may have to do with a "civil 3D style" using a linetype that is referencing an invalid shape file.

I need to look at this more.

Then you might wish to post this on the C3D DG Jonathan.

Just to see if it's related to the C3D Styles.

Sounds like the shapes are already in the drawing, but defined differently
than what is needed for the linetype. Try renaming the shape in the
offending drawing and reload the linetype.

When I reopen and list available shapes saved in drawing it comes with none. It is purging the shapes either during save or upon open.

I even started with a brand new template drawing and inserted this drawing in. The shape files and lientypes appear fine. I save and re-open, and poof, no shapes in drawing????????

This has been an issue Autodesk has known about for a few months now on the
LDT side.

There are a number of posts on this in the LDT NG from Mark Powell and
myself. The issue has been sent to Autodesk Subscription Support from both
of us. Nick Z and the good folks at Engineering Efficiency have also been
looking into this.

I believe this has been occurring in our office since we installed LDT 07
last April or May. I typically have the issue when I use 07 to open & modify
files that were created in versions prior to 07.

Please contact Autodesk or your reseller if possible. A few more squeaky
wheels may help.

I've narrowed it down a little more.
1. I load the linetypes
2. If I list the available shapes, they're all displayed.
3. I save the file, while keeping file open.
the linetypes still display, but when I list the available shapes, there are none. I do a REGEN, and list available shapes, and they're back. Weird!!!!!!
4. I save the drawing, and open back up. Linetypes are not displayed correctly, and all shapes are gone.

another rediculous issue with 2007... we have the same problem with our linetypse. it's july of 2007 and there is no fix to this issue and the issue regarding fields that affect so many of us so heavily. Autodesk should pay us for this useless version of Autocad. 2006 was/is superior to 2007 on so many levels.

I have concerns that it is broke in 2008 too.......sometimes.
I have one drawing that needs some of linetypes manually loaded every time
it is opened, and other drawings that use the same linetypes are fine. Very
bewildering.

Had the same problem for a long time. Figured out that if the drawing contains AECC_Points, my custom linetypes went crazy. I deleted the AECC_Points, purged and reloaded my linetypes and now it works perfect. Hope this helps!

AECC_contours will do it too. Linetypes will behave if they are exploded into polylines (and any
AECC_points are erased).

Note: drawings where everything is created in 2008 sp2 don't seem to have the problem at all.
