CPU usage

Recently I upgraded from a PII 400 512Mram to a PIII 850 512Mram hoping it
would lessen the peaking of my CPU and speed things up, unfortunately I have
not noticed a difference in performance. Are there any trick settings that I
can tweak to help my system from using 100% of my CPU every time I do
something?

Try Disabling any programs that may be running in the background like virus scanners. These often reduce your system to
a crawl. If you've got MS Office installed look for Fast Find or something like that. That thing really hogs resources.

How big is your video card that you installed in the new computer? If you
only got a 16 meg video card then that might be your problem. I installed
32 standard for all of my machines and upgraded some to 64 meg cards. For
cad applications you try to get the best video card that you can afford.
The more horsepower you have as your video card the less you will load onto
your cpu. We have 933 P3's with 384 megs of ram with 32 megs of ram on the
video cards.

thanks,
Ashley
