Budgets

Hi Group,

I am working on my 2002 budget for computers, upgrades, training, software,
R & D projects, and a few other items. Can you guys give me a per user
estimate on what you use in your department. Until now this company hasn't
had a CAD budget and I am putting one together but I don't want to ask for
$2,000 a user if we only need $800 and vice versa. If you don't have $
numbers but want to give tips or input all the better and thanks in advance.

If you prefer, you can respond to me personally and all info supplied is
confidential.

Drew

1 new computer a year for every 3 people. This way, nobody has a computer
that is more then 3 years old. I buy a loaded system, usually about $5000
including monitor. When its 3 years old, it is still very usable.

VIP subscriptions or what ever they are called now. So that you can budget a
small amount of money every year for this, and wont get socked by a large
upgrade justification every few years.

Training. you have to figure out what you need.

Software. Same here. What do you use, what do you want to use, and how
much upgrades will be every year.

We use between $1000 and $1500 worth of paper and toner a year for the
OCE9400 plotter.

Networking - think about new hubs, servers, nics, cables, things you need
for maintenence.

Thanks, we share the color laser with the whole office so don't have to
account for paper or toner. We had 10 base 100 Cat 5 LAN put in last year
with a Raid 3 or 5 server, 30 gig mainframe.

The rest of your comments are very helpful.
