Bill of Materials

Is anyone doing a complete materials take-off from their drawings? I was asked to do a cuople and see how much extra time it takes to do this. Is their a good program anyone can suggest? I know I can get a lot of this out of ADT but, we do not use a lot of the things in ADT. The stairs are one example.

A good place to do a search would be sites like www.tenlinks.com or
www.cadalyst.com or www.caddepot.com as well as www.google.com if you want
to search for some yourself.

I'm not a ADT guru by any stretch, but an architectural firm I consult for
uses it to do just what you're asking. They also do not use the stairs
(among other things) - and I don't think the "vanilla" stairs ADT offers
will give you a lumber breakdown anyway. But what they have done is create
a materials icon for stairs that is assigned all the material properties.
When they build a stair case, they drop in the appropriate custom stair icon
(which does not plot) and that gets picked up by the take-off tool...
