Best use of SSM between many users

How do you all manage the use of Sheet Set Manager between various users on
the same project, in Plain AutoCAD 2008?

How do you get over the fact that when one user has the project open, no one
else can use SSM for that project?

Trying to help set up an office that is keen to use SSM but their initial
attempts seems to have locked things up for everyone.

The project lead or a designated senior designer will be responsible for maintaining the SSM for the project. The designers will only be "users" of the SSM.

I don't see the problems you have. If a user edits something in the sheet
set it immediately propogates to all users working using the sheet set. The
sheet set does not "lock" like an autocad drawing.

If a person sets up new views, imports layouts, adds locations in the model views or other similar 'top level' tasks, the sheet set is locked down for that period of time. At all other times, which are or should be the majority of time, everyone can use the sheet set without limitations. I am not aware that people can assign who has which rights. For us, anyone who has the sheet set open can do any task - often without realizing that they temprarily lock out other people.
But it hasn't been a problem here.

One thing I informed my users on was to not keep certain dialog boxes opened
longer than needed to avoid locking out others.
But if you see that if one user has a project open and no one else can use
it something must be wrong.
