Autodesk Product Manager

What am I missing? Where is the "Autodesk Product Manager" tool?

First I installed the "CAD Manager Tools" that are on the 2014 product install media, hoping to get the "Autodesk Product Manager" tool, but all I got was the "CAD Manager Control Utility". The installer clearly says "Manage software inventory" as shown below.

So I then went in serach of this tool online and found the the License Compliant page (www.autodesk.com/stay_compliant), which says there is a downloadable tool (assuming this is the same application), but it only leads to a PDF file, which itself includes a link back to the License Compliant page. So this is a big loop...

"If you did not install Autodesk Product Manager
when you initially installed your AutoCAD-based
product, you can download the tool for free
from www.autodesk.com/stay_compliant."

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I eventually found this:

http://images.autodesk.com/emea_apac_main/files/autodeskproductmanager.zip

But it will not install on Win7x64.

When you try to launch the .MSI file, it says to run the "setup.exe", which is not included.

Didn't that get pulled earlier this year? There is not license tracking software from Autodesk at this time.

Exactly.  I had started working on modifying the xml files to include the new software, but like every other project, I never finished it.  Hoping something comes along down the road.

Ok then....can someone explain why this was dropped? What possible good could come out of that?

And why is it still referred to in the install media?

And why is the help file for it still installed when you install the CAD Manager Tools?

And then I found this from Jimmy: http://blog.jtbworld.com/2010/01/autodesk-asset-locator-replaces.html, in which the link to the "new tool" is dead.

So if you have a mix of NLM and MSSA installs on many machines (30+), how do you figure out how many of each are out there?

Is it possible to request a compliance audit?  Don't they have tools to verify this, beyond activation counts?

Isn't that like asking the IRS to come over for a visit? 🙂

I'm not saying we are doing anything wrong, but that is like using a nuclear warhead to drive in a nail, when all I need is the hammer that used to exist and did a good job.

Oh, I'm right there with you, if we have to deliberately request an audit to see where everything is its *way* overkill.  I want this kind of tool for our IT department as well.

Do you know of a best practice for autodesk license management software.

License management for multiple servers and mulitple software products.

License Statistics is one.

Autodesk has the License manager LMTOOLS Utility

any others that might be worth looking at?

What is the best pratices for managing Network licenses and products?

Thank you,
