AutoCAD MEP is based upon the AutoCAD engine and is enhanced for MEP design
needs. It also includes functionality found in AutoCAD Architecture.

AutoCAD Revit MEP Suite is a package bundle that includes both AutoCAD MEP
and Revit MEP. Revit MEP is based upon the Revit engine and is tailored to
MEP design needs. With the suite, you get both software packages.

You can buy AutoCAD MEP alone, but you can only purchase Revit MEP as part
of the AutoCAD Revit MEP Suite.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the info Doug.......that is a start for me.....we are a small shop here, the boss does 90% plumbing design.....our main client, Consulting Engineer , is going to Revit (his Architectural clients having having gone to Revit)..he wants us to begin to use it as well.....I was looking on ACAD's site and saw the 2 variations of MEP and wasn't sure about either( lots of reading to decipher)......the boss (not here today) has ordered one of them - just the MEP program I think, so I was curious about the 2.......I am thinking she has sorted it out with her re-seller as to the correct/best program for her/us.........

Revit isn't really compatible with Autocad MEP like you will be wanting it
to be when you really get into collaboration with your client.

It sounds like the AutoCAD Revit MEP Suite is what your firm needs. The
suite is about $1000 more than straight AutoCAD MEP, but it really sounds
like you need Revit MEP.

I'd have to agree with Doug, but, I'd also recommend taking the time to
pop into the Revit MEP forum and look at the existing users' comments
about current shortcomings in the program. I believe that I've heard
there are still some difficulties with piping?

Excellent point Melanie.

Randy, you may still need to provide a Revit model, but the piping portion
is the weakest portion of Revit MEP and you will want to be aware of that
going in.
