No, but we're in the process (about 90% done) of an NT 4 to 2000 upgrade.
Most of the major issues you'll encounter (AD, DNS, etc) are present in both
2000 and 2003.
Not sure how much I can help, but post away.

OK I just upgraded my, 500mhz P3 windows NT4.0 machine w/ 256mb RAM to Dual
700 mhz P3 windows server 2003 and 1.5gb of RAM. When it was a NT machine it
ran great and was a little slow at times. Now that I have upgraded hardware
and clean installed WS2003 I get horrible performance. I am getting slow
logins (I now know that can be solved
with DNS BUT HOW?) but I'm getting very slow access to the server and it
seems to be slowing down the workstations in autocad. The workstations
keep losing access to the server. why is it running like a 386? Please
Help me.

Thanks

Well, first things first. In task manager, does it see both CPUs? How many
servers do you have? Is the same server running your DNS services? Are you
running WINS? is your AD domain the same name as your public domain?

1. Yes I see both CPUs One is running constantly and the other is doing
nothing
2. 2 (1 PDC and the other is just a file server for marketing)
3. Yes the server just upgraded will run DNS (I didn't install it with AD
because it didn't think I needed it)
4 Public domain meaning our website right? well the server isn't running
the website right now (it will someday). but I did make the domain name -
adgdomain.adgokc.com

to do some explaining.

This is my first AD server build. We have a small office (32 users) and we
have been running on Windows NT4.0 since it came out. I was not here the
time it was setup but I have rebuilt it 1 time (same domain). I'm would
consider myself pretty good at NT4 networks but this is my first attempt at
AD and WS2003. I did some research (enough to get a little confident) and
dove in. Well come to find out I'm in over my head but I think I'm OK. I
just need some advice. The server is running fine - a little slow but fine.
I just want to get it right so I can get on with my CAD manager duties.
Thanks for all of your help.

here is some pointers.
microsoft made there os to be part of the internet or a full blown dns server on the net. Its a little overkill for
most companies. Don't get hung up on using a fully qualified domain name like blabla.com. Just use something like
SERVER for the computers name and ADGOKC for your internal domain name. Installing AD will install DNS. On the
workstations enter the IP of the domains controller into the DNS settings. That should be all that is needed, but I
sometimes like to add the routers IP address (If I don't want to control net access) and maybe an ip from my ISP.
Ideally it would only be the IP of the DC.

I've set up a few officies with no problems at all just using the above. Its real simple.

For help try looking at google's search functions instead of posting a question. Google's usenet archive goes back
farther then the microsoft servers and the search functions are better then a news reader's. Most likely someone else
aready had your problem. Thats why some get tired of answering the same ol over and over again.

Hope this helps

I thought they were retireing Server 2000 like they did with NT4 years ago.

I'm sure they will, but right now for mission critical servers I would stick with
2000 until someone else figures out the wrinkles with 2003.
