AUGI CAD CAMP

Anyone been to an AUGI CAD Camp yet?

What were your thoughts? My initial impression is that for anyone using
plain AutoCAD, there's only one class cohise for any of the sessions, a
couple that one class is less than ideal.

On top of that, if you aren't using AutoCAD 2005 or greater, everything
has limited value until such time as you upgrade (planned for the fall
of this year here).

Should we send anybody or skip it? Most of the people who really would
benefit from this went to AU anyway but we were thiking of the CAD Camp
as a cheaper alternative for some of the others but it does'nt have a
lot of variety andf doesn't apply well because out install base isn't
running current software.

Thanks for your thought.

I attended the Dallas AUGI Cad Camp: you are correct about the single class
option, but they also covered ADT and other versions too, not just plain
AutoCAD.

It does help if you are on 2005: don't waste your time otherwise. It's like
AU-lite, last year's hoopla at an affordable one day rush 😉

If you pay attention and take notes, there is plenty to learn (I picked up a
lot of tips watching the presenters actually use the program as much as what
they said and showed). If you have no experience with the product in
question, this is not a show for you. Many of the classes (ADT especially)
really do presume you've actually used the product, newbies will be totally
lost.

Skip the Tips and Tricks class, waste of time IMHO, I walked out and went to
watch Lynn Allen finish her basic lisp class instead (she's great, I'd
listen to her talk about paint drying lol).

Whether you are signed up for the class or not, all the class material was
freely available for everyone (especially after each class was over).

And LUNCH in Dallas was a genuine feast, plus there are so many prizes to
win you might want to take a backpack 😉
We also had Lynn Allen present many classes, and Autodesk's Heidi Hewitt do
a 2006 presentation when the program was relatively new. A very good day.

I attended the one in Omaha and it was great. I use MDT 6 & Mechanical 6
and while some things were for newer versions and other verticals, many
things work with older releases and other apps.

It was great meeting so many other people. I figured there would be about
50 people but we had 200 people, many who drove 3 hours to attend. It was
great to see what other people are using and how they are using it. For
$100 you get more than your money's worth.

It's cheap, and only a one day event. I think it is a good idea for you to
send some people that want to learn more about the new upcoming features
that they don't get to see with the current version you are using.

Are you going? I was all ready to register but then remembered I have to
take my daughter on a school trip, so I will miss this one in St Paul. Are
you still with CSG? I'm surprised to hear they sent people to AU.

The ADT classes will most likely not be the same as what you saw in Dallas.
The Dallas AUGI CAD Camp used "local talent" (me) for those classes, so
there will be a different instructor for others, using their own materials -
probably even completely different ADT topics. It may or may not be more
suited to "newbies" than my presentations were. Mine were basically taken
from my AU presentation and modified to fit a shorter time frame.

Let's just say the lunch at the recent "Realize Your Ideas Tour" was light years better than the one at the CAD Camp....

>> We also had Lynn Allen present many classes,

That alone made it worth attending. 🙂

AUGI CAD Camp at Lansing, Michigan was one of the best events I have ever been to.

For me it was Plotting. Never have I learned so much. (Training was nothing like this. Window and plot.) This goes into so much
more, and why.

Are the classes the same as AU, maybe, but this is design for only ONE DAY. AU is short of 40 hours.

You still have to pick and choose. Send a few people to cover them all, and the coordinate at the end of the day. You may find a
10% gain.

As for the money, find something cheaper. A Users Group comes to mind. News Discussion Groups, like this one, is one of the best.
Last, but not least, Forums, there are soooo many.
