Take a look at the trial version of SmartPurger (now for AutoCAD 2004) or
download some freeware at www.jtbworld.com

Although it really depends on what side of the coing your on.

ADT may be better for the AEC Side from what I understand.

But on the Construction Side (my side) Quikpen is king.

Form fits function. Just depends on what it's for.

I used a third party app called Cadpipe awhile back with excellant results
(doing structural work now). I understand they now have the ability to
directly download to the plasma cutter. You can get a 30 day, fully
functional demo with tutorial examples from http://www.cadpipe.com/ . If you
are doing shop drawings you want to look at their HVAC and Commercial Pipe
modules not the combined Building Services package.

What type of software do you use for the structural work?

AutoCAD 2004, no third party apps. 2D work only.

Quickpen is probobly one of best 3D programs for HVAC & Mech Piping
installers for generating shop drawings and prefab.
http://www.quickpen.com/

I'm still waiting for them to improve thier plumbnig side of stuff but thier
HVAC and Mech Piping has been complete for a while now.

We're using Autocad 2000 and are considering upgrading to Arch. Desktop 4.
I was curious as to what other people are using for structural work.

We have started to use ProSteel 3D from
http://kiwisoft.de/prostahl/english/index.htm
It's the product that Bentley/Rebis has but their label on too. Rebis
Structural. But they are always one or two versions behind.

It's a competent 3D object oriented program. It's a bit messy with many
dialogboxes with many options. Quite a lot to set things up the way you want
it but otherwise quite easy to work with. But it's the best that are
reselled based on AutoCAD here. It has a good API and I've done some
customization to suite our work. I recieved version 16.4 that is for AutoCAD
2004 yesterday.
