Selective Visability and printing

We are considering setting up a site for a current project and I would like
to make sure that we can limit visibility to folders by users. That is to
say that a consulting engineer could see everything but a plumbing
sub-contractor could only see plumbing related items. I don't just want to
keep people from being able to view drawings, I don't want them to see
entire folders so that users with very specific needs can get in and get out
without slogging through too many layers of information.

Also, is it possible to set up Plan Center with a service bureau for direct
printing and delivery of drawings.

Wow. This question is right up my alley. I used to be the Software
Development Manager for Buzzsaw/ProjectPoint. Now I am the Software
Development Manager for Océ Plan Center.

A Buzzsaw site will absolutely let you do what you want. Permissions can be
set at the Project, Folder, or File level. It is quite typical for users to
log into a site and see only the projects that they have access to. You can
even set "No Access" if you desire. People usually group site members into
User Groups and set the permissions for the User Groups rather than setting
permissions individually. So you could have groups of "Consulting Engineers"
and "Plumbers" and set the permissions appropriately.

The integration between Buzzsaw and Plan Center is not that great. One
reason for this is that it really takes AutoCAD, Word, or whatever authoring
tool you are using to prepare a print-ready file. What users wanted was some
folder on their Buzzsaw site where they could drag and drop documents to and
print-ready documents would result. Buzzsaw and Plan center do not have that
level of integration yet. It is possible to use Buzzsaw to collaborate with
your DWG file and other source drawings. You can then use the Océ Client
Tools to generate print-ready (LDF) documents and load them into Plan
Center. Alternatively, you can generate the LDF files using the Océ Client
Tools and upload those to your Buzzsaw site. If you wish to try a
pre-release of the Océ Client Tools, you can find them at:

https://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com/constructionmanagement/public/OceClientTools.exe?public

This is a release candidate copy on my Buzzsaw site. If you encounter any
problems with them, please email me directly at
scott.sheppard@repro.oceusa.com rather than contacting your Océ Sales rep or
anyone else. An official beta program would require a different process
involving several layers of the Océ channel. This is not an official beta.
This is just me.

Thank you,
That helps me a lot, please let me know if I am correct then in the
following reasoning.

I sounds to me like I will still need to use Plan Center for printing
documents but I would use Buzzsaw for team coordination (i.e.. RFI's, dwg's,
dwf's, etc.) I would post drawings twice... once to Buzzsaw for people to
reference/download, etc. in editable format and once to Plancenter for
people to print. The interface for this would be AutoCAD for drawings, and
the windows explorer for non-CAD documents. My current Buzzsaw Apprentice
application would not factor into the equation.

Thanks again,
Andre

You are correct. Buzzsaw Apprentice is now replaced by Océ Publisher.

Buzzsaw <--DWG--> ProjectPoint
DWG--> AutoCAD-->LDF
DWG-->Océ Publisher--LDF-->Océ Plan Center

Buzzsaw <--DOC--> ProjectPoint
DOC--> Word-->Océ LDF Driver for Windows-->Océ Plan
Center
