Vault for simple .Dwg file management with Civil3D

    Hi,

I have a number of licenses of Civil3D 2011, and I wish to use standard Vault for simple Check-In and Check-Out of .Dwg files, without all the references etc to Civil3D projects etc.

Is there a way I can configure Vault for simple .Dwg file management as it works with standard AutoCAD or AutoCAD Map?

    Regards,

Can you tell me why you would need to do this?

What is it about the interface that makes you want to revert to the base AutoCAD functionality?

    Richard,

    Thanks for your interest here.

As mentioned earlier I need simple Check-In and Check-Out of .Dwg files, without references to "Civil3D Projects".

The standard AutoCAD interface does not require the user to select a Project, and I would like my Civil3D users to use the same as my AutoCAD Users, for support and training purposes.

    Regards,

    Jim

    Hi jkwilliams,

I asked this question internally to see if we could offer any alternative suggestions. The bottom line is, if your users are using C3D features like Points, Point Groups, Intersections, they should be using the C3D Vault Addin Interface. The C3D Vault supports those features.

If the users are not using those C3D features, they can close C3D and run the Vanilla AutoCAD profile to get the standard AutoCAD Vault checkin interface.

    I hope this helps.

    Richard,

    Thanks for your comments here.

My users of Civil3D will be usign the software for Survey related work, preparing mainly Parcel deposited Plans, but will use Points groups, and some basic TIN surfaces, but will not need to share C3D objects.

I do however want thier data backed up in our Vault configured for AutoCA use with other internal departments.

Why would I use the Vautl for Civil3D, when all I need is simple Check-In and Check-Out?

Id I don't want to actual share C3D Objects, why would I use it?

    Regards,

    Jim

I assume you mean use the AutoCAD "2D Drafting & Annotation" Workspace?

I have tried this, and I still get prompted to select a Civil3D Project, which is not what I want.

Any way around this "Project" issue with Civil3D?

    Regards,

    Jim

    Hi jkwilliams,

In native ACAD, vault uses XREF ESW (Enhanced Secondary Window) for all the vault operation. Probably you could try it out...

    Chear,

Thanks for the suggestion of using XREF ESW (Enhanced Secondary Window).

How would I access this within Civil3D 2011?

    Regards,

    Hi Jim,

You could invoke XREF ESW via commandline, 'XREF'. Do note that 'XREF' will have no information of C3D project, and all its contained file relationships.

    Chear,

I have run the XREF command, and there is no clear way of doing a Check-In or Check-Out in Vault with no reference to a Civil3D Project.

If I select the file in the XREF Window, I am still prompted to select a Civil3D Project.

How do I work around this?
