I am trying to get Vault to map the 'Original Create Date' property to the create date in my Autocad Title block. I have sucessfully mapped it, but it contains the time as well as the date. This isnt acceptable.

I can see through the, new for 2012, Revision table settings, that you have access to the 'Original Create Date (Date Only)' property. However, these **** (Date Only) type properties don't exist in the property definition. So i can't map a (Date Only) property to my autocad title block.

What i don't understand is Brian Schanen's blog post suggests otherwise. http://underthehood-autodesk.typepad.com/blog/2010/04/new-vault-properties-for-title-block-mapping.h... Sure its an Inventor drawing he is using, but all the documentation suggests ultimately (once the title block is indexed in the ADMS) control of the autocad and inventor title blocks are virtually the same. 

As you can see in this picture below, somehow the 'Original Create Date' has had its time stamp stripped off between the Vault property grid and the Inventor title block:

The question is: Am I missing something? or is this more Autodesk Blog trickery? Given Brian is a bit of a Ledge... I must be missing something!!??!

Hi Scott,

Did you ever get an answer to this question of date formatting?  I just discovered this issue kind of at the 11th hour on a big project, and none of the work-arounds are very pretty.  The "date only" property would be an acceptable answer (although frankly more formatting flexibility of dates in mappings would be a better answer.

To be honest after the post I haven't done a thing with trying to sort out integrating autocad into vault. So other than the default mappings I haven't done a thing. I was lead to believe this would be fixed for vault 2012 update 1, but I haven't verified if it has been. if you have that update and it doesn't work then I'm mystified as to why this hugely important part of the title block and revision history table hasn't been fixed via a hot fix. Based on some of the vault teams recent decisions on what's a 'priority for the end users' I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. I will try and make time to test it on the 2013 beta but I won't be able to reply with the result I'm afraid.

I don't have Update 1 (somehow I nissed that), but looking through the read-me, it's not mentioned in the list of issues addressed.

Given the hour, I don't trust myself to install the update tonight, but will try it in the AM.

Question: I'm sure that Vault supports alternative date/time formats for different geographies.  a) do you know where the configuration for that is located and b) any chance one might be able to force an alternative default date display from that vantage?

I suspect it takes the format from the operating system.

Has anyone found a solution for this issue? Is there a way to have only the Date information without the hour?

Hi All,

When this functionality was implemented it was intended to primarily benefit Inventor users. But then it was seen that it could be useful for AutoCAD users as well. However, AutoCAD does appear to behave slightly differently.

The information sent from the Vault Server to the CAD Application contains the DATE & TIME. Inventor has the ability to remove the TIME information because it supports data type = DATE, but AutoCAD does not. AutoCAD will display the full text as it receives it in data type = TEXT. The safest way to do implement this is to add the same functionality in AutoCAD in a future release. Until then, there is no easy to use way have the Orginal Create Date (with no time) written back to AutoCAD.

Reading through this forum thread it would seem that there is a misleading statement from Autodesk suggesting that AutoCAD should behave exactly the same way as Inventor. I have not been able to find this so far (Brians blog posting mentions neither AutoCAD nor Inventor specifically, its just the example is Inventor), so if you could point me to where it states this, I can see if I can get the information corrected to hopefully reflect reality, avoid misinterpretation and be as transparent as possible.
