Autodesk Vault Customization

Should the call to ValidateBOMByFileId ever take 17+ minutes?  I have found on some assemblies with around 100 components the call times out after 17 minutes.  Smaller assemblies finish quickly so I can't understand why this takes so long.  If I watch the sqlserver process I can see that it is working on it the entire time.  Is this normal?

I got word from the development team that ValidateBOMByFileId is mainly for debugging and support purposes, so it was never designed to perform well.
