There are a couple of things to set up
    first:

Is your field book correctly coded ("B EB1" to
    begin a EB1, etc)?

Is your figure prefix library setup?

    The most
common problem amongst new users is getting the fieldbook just right. Do a
search of this newsgroup and general civil3d. There has been a lot of useful
    info meted out.

    Good
    luck.

    Jon,

Well i have set up all the point code library, symbol library and some line type libraries to run right with certain prefixes as B EP1, TS1, and etc.. one problem is that my company is wnating to run the field data through Trimbles TGO package for GPS processing for the geoid models and etc. When i use the trimble link for the fbk it fails to draw any lines TGO seems to add alot of actual setup information and this causes my fbk to crash. i have gotten around this problem by exporting it out of TGO as "TDS.dc" file then converting it in survey link to a field book. The main problem is that i can not get it to draw a 3d polyline. And i have spent some time on the decussion forums on here looking for an answer to my question and i am pretty sure i am not looking in the right places or do not know the correct language to use could u kindly send me the link to the site that deals with this directly?

    Thanks

In LDD when importing a fieldbook, only 2D lines are drawn. You can create 3D lines by either importing them into the drawing using "Create 3D polylines" from the survey toolspace or "Create Breaklines From Figures" from the Analysis/Figures menu. The latter will add 3D breaklines to a surface which can then be imported back into the drawing for editing.

    Hi MJones,

Sorry about not replying: I have been inside a
    clients office for the week.

Just to clarify: which version of LDD or
    C3D?

Are you able to create a csv file and post it to
the customer-files area so that we might see directly what your codes look
    like?

Probably should also pst your template file so we
can see your settings. If you are using c3d, you must specify what type of
    breakline you want.

    Jon,

i am currently using LDD 2007, my office in the process of upgrading to Civil 3d here soon. So i am making the best of what i have and hopefully i can just transfer all i have done over to civil 3d. one i do not have a template set up yet i am just running a test file that will later become a template for topography and etc. I am new to the company i am at and they do not have a standardized template in use for Cad work yet. So everyone is just winging it. I have since answered the question i asked on here with the trimble download problem i just completely bypass the trimble fdk and dc file it adds an extra step but it works and gets the results i need to get the job done without hassel.

Perserverance is great for results, but plays havoc
    with your hairline!!

Well done. Encourage them to upgrade to c3d2009
asap: I used to use LDD for survey and would hate to go back to it.

Thanks for your advise here is what trimble is downloading from TGO and directly from the data collector. i played with it for hours and could not get any results and tried creating my own format that did not work either. now on curves is it C3 everytime?

We could write a new format to import the coords
from the sample you have posted, but you will not get any linework unless you
create a fbk file and import that into LDD/C3D. So if you need linework, you
must be able to create a fbk file that is correctly formatted. Can you post your
FBK file so that we can seen what the problem is?

We supply a free programme called StringerConnect
which converts a lot of formats (including reduced coordinates) to fbk format.
You need to send me a direct email to get that download link.

    Hi MJONES1924,

    For Autodesk:
The incompetents who modified the newsgroups a few weeks ago have
thoroughly destroyed your formatting making this very hard to read. If
they don't fix it in their close down next weekend (and since they
haven't acknowledged any where that I've seen that they even know they
have a problem I don't feel confident they will fix it), for future
posting from a newsreader enclose the content in braces like this.

    Put our information here

I believe from the Web browser interface there is an option to use Rich
text format, but I never waste my time with a browser to read newsgroups
    so haven't seen it.

    For you:

    NE SS 10133 83074.636 52585.498 667.567 "B EP"

Although you should code your point in the field with B EP to begin a
figure with the name EP the translator which reads the raw data from the
data recorder and converts it to a fieldbook should create two lines
    like this:

    BEG EP
    NE SS 10133 83074.636 52585.498 667.567 EP

Arrrrggggghhhhh - I thought I had better reformat your data so it could
read. This is how I expect it was when you posted it
