    Hi,

Which version of autocad  and other autodesk software you suggest me for surveying. From taking the meaurements of the total station until the design.

    Thank you.

Surveyor’s point of view: Autodesk products are great for design and display; but they are not survey processing software except for basic plate angle traverse. To utilize the capabilities of modern survey instruments you need to use the instrument manufactures software to process and adjust the field data.

Especially if mixing GPS and TPS (conventional total station) data. I personally have used Wild / Leica Instruments for the past 35 years. Mixed GPS and TPS data is processed with LGO (Leica Geo Office) and adjusted with Move3.(Processing GPS data and applying geoid corrections and CSCS models is way beyond the capabilities of  Autodesk products) The instrument manufactures software allows mixed GPS and conventional terrestrial data (Total Station) and allows flexible setup methods for the total station; 2 point and multi point resection, reciprocal traverse, and Smart Station setups. Processed data is saved in PENZD.csv format and then imported into C3D and description key’s applied to get line work. Description Key Sets in C3D and Code sets in the Data Collector / Instrument must be setup and match exactly in order to work.

Hi.  It is absolutely true that Autodesk has made the very wise decision not to provide direct hardware-data collection support.  How could a software company possibly keep up with the hundreds of hardware manufacturers of instruments and data collection devices?

The Original poster did in fact mention the total station, and not neccessarily GPS.  Depending on the data being collected by the total station and or it's attached data collector, Civil3D 2012 is absolutely recomended as a survey data reduction platform.

From simple coordinate files, all the way to multiple networks utilzing true polar information, Civil3D can and does reduce raw data.  A majority of survey customers present a completly RAW data file to the system and convert it to the FBK language from data collectors by Leica, TDS, Topcon, and many many others.
