Parcel line layers

I'm having some trouble with Parcels.
I imported my linework from a previous software (Carlson).
I worked with line labels until I got my styles just the way I like them.
I worked with Parcel Styles until I got the acreage and S.F. to show up just right.
Then I noticed that, when I used my linework to creat a parcel, the dimensions went away. The lines became "parcel segments." They won't accept line labels and I can't figure out how to control the layer that Parcel Segments show up on.
Does anyone have a successful workflow for this issue?
