Hi!
I don't really know how to put this one...I have a client who wants to know if this can be done in Survey (in Civil 3D 2009): Whenever they will survey a foot path, a drain (or anything that can be redundantly) they only do the sightings on one side and will just assign a figure for the other side. Using their old software, this will only be plotted as a single line. The question is, upon Conversion to FBK file, can Survey plot a double line representing both sides of the foot path or drain? Thanks!

Hi glimor's girl,
Search the Civil 3D help files for "Survey Command Syntax", Select the
Survey Command Language (the top item returned by the search), then
Select the Figures commands
There is a reference to an OFFSET function.
However, there are several links in the chain of entering the data to
your model data recorder, whether the programmer who wrote the code to
translate your raw observed/annotation data to the proper fieldbook
format. Experiment with hardware and software combinations are needed.
Post your hardware details and a user here may have resolved the issue
for that hardware.
There is an excellent solution to this issue using "Stringer" which
allows multiple offsets and vertical as well as horizontal offset. You
can find more details at:

Hi Laurie!
Thanks for the reply. I've tried using OFFSET in Survey command window and it works. However, the main concern of the client is if it's possible not to go through this process manually. They are talking about some libraries wherein everytime they import the FBK it will automatically plot the offset with such settings. Does this make sense?

Hi glimor's girl,
Here's a simple little fieldbook data set. Copy it to a fieldbook file
and import it. It will display the capability of the fieldbook. Do an
AutoCAD list of the offset object, or look at it from the Survey
Database in the Prospector. But remember that you have to be able to
input the data in your data recorder and the transformation software has
to do the transformation, neither of which is guaranteed.
NEZ 1 10 10 10
NEZ 2 10 30 10
BEG Fred
PT 1
PT 2
OFFSET FRED 10
NEZ 3 15 40 10
Change the text to:
NEZ 1 10 10 10
NEZ 2 10 30 10
BEG Fred
PT 1
PT 2
NEZ 3 15 40 10
OFFSET FRED 10
and import again.
