Is it possible to download a family file (.rfa) for Revit MEP 2009 and load it to the Revit Architecture 2009 family to use?
I don't seem to be able to do so?

Yes, that is very possible. All RFA files are compatible with all three Revit products, however, they can only be opened in a version of Revit that is the same or higher than the file (no backwards compatibility).

One thing to keep in mind about families created in MEP is that MEP installations have access to “Lookup Tables” (.csv files) which define instance parameters of the family. If an MEP user sends a family to an RAC user without the Lookup Table, the RAC user will still have the values populated, but won’t have access to the file for editing (Lookup Tables are only used for MEP content and are only included in MEP installations). The RAC user could always override the values, but may wonder where the values are coming from since the file is unavailable.

    I hope this helps!

So what's the solution to my problem? Did you look up the attached file I attached in my first post that illustrates the problem?

    Diesellam,

I am hearing from the Revit experts around here that the category is not set as expected. They expect the family category to be Duct Fittings in this case by looking at the document. The category is not set from the folder you save the file to, but it is set on the family itself.

The families beginning with M_ (typically for metric content) may have category set to “Duct Fitting” instead of “Mechanical Equipment”. You can check the Duct Fittings node on the Project browser to see if the content was actually loaded, but under a different category.

    Does this help?
