Trim slab corner?

I've got a slab corner that I need to trim. I've done a few similar areas by using the contour command, which has seemed to work OK previously. (I haven't yet got to grips with the hole or trim command, either of which may be a better option).

However, I've tried using the contour command this time and it doesn't appear to define correctly. When I click apply the graphics go haywire and the panel that I am trying to trim is no longer fully colour filled. Re draw does not correct this.

How can I trim / redefine the slab corner without this happening?
