Frustrating, plastic hinges

Hi All,

I tried to use the pushover at analysis with frustrating results!. I need to verify a concrete structure of an existing building. It seems not practical to use the plastic hinges in Robot.
It seems that  is mandatory to specify in advance ultimate moment of the reinforced concrete sections. This may be simple for the beams but prohibitive for the columns. The variation of the compression in this case change the ultimate moment of the section. So it seems necessary define different hinges for the columns of every floor and in when the vertical action changes. In the same way considering a direction (for example x) common with lower x should have a plastic hinge different from those with greater x.
I understand also that Max and My and, more generally, the different degrees of freedom, are mutually independent. There is no possibility, therefore, take into account the biaxial moments of columns.
No one has tried to use robots in similar problems? Any suggestions?

HI Gabriele,

as it is stated in Help:

Non-linear hinges are treated as independent non-linear connections for each degree of freedom at a selected node. Interaction between different degrees of freedom is ignored.

It is limiting very strongly the practical use of this type of analysis:(

Hi Pawel,

thank you for your interest and sincerity. Do you think that in the future these limitations will be overcome?. As you know, today this type of analysis are more widely required by customers.
anyway thanks

Soo I tried to do NL-THA on a Concrete Column 4m ht with 100mmx100mm dimension

and it displays thisNL-Hinge on Concrete Column.png

Can robot do this?

Hi jclcereno ,

You seem to discuss the same topic in this post.

Analysis can be convergent or no depending on applied excitation loads and definition of hinge and its capacity.
