    Snapping sloping beam to grid

I am trying to model roof framing. I created a Reference Plane in the slope of the roof. Now, I wanted to create a roof girder in that reference plane going from one grid to another, but when I try to snap to the grid, the snapping does not seem to work properly - the reference line corresponding to the grid line is offset from the actual location and consequently the beam ends are offset from the grid. Is this a bug or am I missing something? If this is a bug, is there a workaround?

See the video and sample model linked below.

Start with using 3d snapping on the edges of the roof.  the beam will follow the slope of your roof. No refplane necessary.

What if the edge of the roof is not at the grid line, but the beam needs to stop at the grid line?

Move the beam in section towards your grid. It still follows the slope of the roof.

Thanks 5kings, although yes, it will follow the slope, but this is not an issue here. The issue is how to place the the beam end precisely at the grid line.

drag the shape handle of the beam beyond he grid. Then cut te beam on the grid .

But..... Won't the beam snap on the grid intersection with the roof in a section view . You can also try to force the snap with the shortcut "si"

Unfortunately, none of the above work, see the video: http://screencast.com/t/8LR4Ew3T7

Similarly, I cannot create a beam in the reference plane along the grid line.

Ok... drag the shapehandles..... the litte triangles.. beyond the gridline not his dragpoint. then you are able to cut the beam exact on the grid.

    See attachment.

I removed your beam and placed it back in section.
