this happens because probably you control the visual style of the view by a view template.
Whatever the view template controls is not available to be modified on a "per view level". You should make your changes on the View template directly and afect all the views controled by this view template.
However, if you detach the view template from the view, the view will keep the current configuration so you can then change the settings on this view.
