yes, you can continue to get updates and new versions of Revit, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Architecture that are part of the Suite you currently own, for the length of your current subscription, and for the length of any renewed subscription.  If you have a year left on your current subscription, you can choose to renew it for 1, 2, or 3 years.  If you renew it for a year, then you will get updates to waht you currently have until the end of that term.  Once the term of the subscription expires, then you will have to "crossgrade" to a Building Design Suite.

I don't know about any of the numbers a reseller is quoting you.  You need to find out from them, but I would guess that fee to crossgrade from a Revit Arch Suite to a Building Design Suite includes your subscription, and could be a multi-year subscription..  It also includes at least 6 more valuable pieces of software, depending on if you are going to Premium or Ultimate. The Navisworks Simulate portion of BDS Premium used to sell on its own for around 10 grand.

so we have version 2013; so if we renew it for 3 years then autodesk will upgrade us to versions 2014, 2015 and 2016? still not getting it. sorry to be dense.

Yes, if you renew during your current subscription. (You are on a current subscription, right?)   You cannot let your subscription laspe, and then try and renew. 

You will be paying now for 3 years of subscription on each license if you decide to do this.  It may be more cost effective to crossgrade to the Buildling Design Suite Premium, plus you'd get all the other software that comes with BDS Premium.

What I'm saying is something like this (but don't quote me on it because I don't have any access to the "numbers" and I'm not a reseller):  You can pay now for a 3 year subscription for your Revit Arch Suite, and keep getting upgrades for 3 more years on those 3 products.  Lets say that costs $1000 per license for the 3 years.  (Again, I'm making that figure up).  Alternativly you can crossgrade to BDS Premium for a shorter term subscription for the same money, and get more software.  Pay $1000 now for 3 more years of 3 pieces of software, or pay $1000 now and get 12 pieces of software for a year subscription.  Either way, it's the same money-out-of-pocket now.

All of these "possibilities" should be worked out with your reseller.

Expensive forced upgrades to products we never wanted nor will use. It can't be described any other way than extortion. I smell a class action lawsuit in the future...
