Revit Server specs

I'd like someone (preferably Robert M, David Light, or someone from Adesk with the real inside scoop)
to verify very definitely:

Will Revit Server ONLY work with Windows Server 2008 64 bit ( not R2 ) ?
Not Win Server 2003 32 bit, or Win Server 2008 32 bit, etc.

If so, how soon will Win Server 2008 64 R2 be supported?

This is a major problem as our remote offices are Win Server 2008 64 R2 and I don't think
you can "downgrade" them ( and we wouldn't want to anyway even if you could.)

We would like to begin using Revit Server right away, but need answers before implementing it.

cheers

Revit Server has only been tested for Windows Server 2008 with .NET 3.5 SP1.  2008 R2 is not supported, nor is Windows Server 2003.  Also running Windows Server 2008 in a virtual environment is not supported.
Unfortunately at this time there is no timetable for R2 support.  I have included some additional documentation in the links below:

Thank you,

Go back up the main folder Revit_Server_Extension_64bit and run the Setup.exe to install the server extension.

Although not officially supported, you CAN run Revit Server on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, and even virtually as well. Just finished my video, showing from downloading the file to getting it up and running.

Check it out and see that's what you need: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSjMY3hA79I

Hope that helps!

I'm wondering if it will work on a 32-bit version of 2008.  I have an old server sitting around that I would like to use.

We have installed it on virtual machines! Worked with small files (ie. the demo files used in the videos) But don't work with bigger files (We have one 450MB model!)

Currently we switch to "real" machines. Hope this work.

I am wondering if the size of the revit file is a problem.

I have setup Revit Server in a test environment. I seem to be able to activate small revit projects within Revit Server but when I attemp to mount a large project (100mb+) I get a message which reads (in part) "The Revit server you are trying to access i s not available due to a server or network failure. . . . .The connection to the Revit server needs to be restored in order to run server-dependent operations, . . . .

Under Syncronize>Connect to Revit Server, the master server is listed and connected.

What am I missing?

Any thoughts

After several Tests we have still problems with bigger files:

2x dedicated Windows 2008 64 Bit Server, english standard 4GB Memory Core 2 duo, 2,2 GHz, fresh installed.

Open VPN connection with minimum 764 MBit, max. 2GBit., Network to Network connection, bridged, same network segment (10.10.0.0 255.255.0.0)

Still no succes with bigger files. Our project has 500-700MB! We always get network failure after several minutes of waiting. Somtimes it starts opening from the local server and stops @ 1-5%

Still we are looking for a "working" solution: Central and Local Servers exchange information in background asychron. Worset locks have to be exchanged sychron (User and group rights should be controled by the servers) Users should be able to open projects from their local servers quickly even when they are not 100% in sync.

Any suggestions to establish above situation, or to troubleshoot the Revit server installation.

Thanx Christian

Sometimes i get similar error messages. I found saving your local file to a different folder might solve it. this solutions relates to a folder disc space issue.
