When working with phases in Revit, when you have elements in the existing phase, how can one make the model components reder according to their materials, instead of the existing material?

Set the phase filter of view that you're rendering to Show Complete and
the phase to New Construction.

Remove the Material from the Material column in the "Graphic Overrides" tab of the Phasing dialog.
