Material takeoff: As paint and other related calculations

    1. I’m wondering why no values where calculated for the field “Material: as paint”!

    1. As for the “area” and “volume” calculation, they sound to be false, for example, the area of plaster board should be 0.02*1.84 but not 0.32*1.84!!!!!

    What might be false there?

    Thank you for the help,

    Best

    Jamal

    • The areas of the materials are calculated multiplying the length of the core lines times the height of the wall, minus the area of the openings.
    • The Length parameter shows the length of the core line of each line, not the length of the exterior of the wall, but the length of the core considering intersections with other walls, such as in this corner.
    • Materials have waste in the field, so a good approximation is good enough.
    • The "width" parameter that you see (0.32) is the width of the wall, not the width of each of the components. The width of the components is already available in the wall's type properties window.
    • "Material as paint = No" means that this material is a layer in the wall's type properties, not a material applied on the wall with the paint tool.

    Many thanks for the elaboration.

My issue here is to calculate the volume and area (horizontal and vertical) of each layer of the wall.

    For example,

What is horizontal area of the plaster board? (Should be 0.02*length)

What is the vertical area of the plaster board? (Should be length*3)

What is the volume of the plaster board? (Should be 0.02*length *3)

How these calculations can be obtained automatically from the Revit?

To understand the way the Revit works, I considered the simple wall below to see how the areas and volume are calculated

    • Still, the material: as paint is not calculated
    • What is the difference between Area and Material Area?
    • What is the difference between Volume and Material Volume?

    Thank you for the help
