Is there any efficiency like moving detail line groups between projects?

I know how to make a group. I know how to make a project. But when I learn warehouse A (done by someone else last year) has almost the exact details I need for Warehouse B, what efficiencies does Revit offer so I don't have to reinvent the wheel?
Methods that failed:
I exported a sheet of the original Revit detailwork as CAD, and when I inserted that into my Revit file to use as traceable work, only the title block and viewport names showed up.
I exported the detail component to my local library, and it can't be inserted either. It instead places a view callout that isn't even in the original file - and no line work.
I do not need to know any way I should have started differently 3 months ago.
