I've just recently started to try using Revit architecture, most of it seems fairly self explanitory however I've had trouble because I don't know how to get the snap tools (like those found on autocad) to work.
The First situation I want to solve is positioning a steel I-frame column to the center of a pad foundation. However when it comes to moving the column or just trying to create it in the centre no points appear to help me position it?

You should be able to snap to the midpoint of the footing to correctly position the column.
Use the Tab key to cycle thru possible elements when selecting/moving/snapping.
Also, use keyboard shortcuts such as SM for Snap Midpoint, SC for Snap Center, SP for Snap Perpendicular, etc.
