Building Design Suite Ultimate 2013 is SLOW!

Does anyone else using BDSU having issues with it being at least half as slow as 2012? I can't almost do anything without my computer locking up for 30-90 seconds while it maxes out a single core to 100%. It's very disapointing to have to wait that long to align a wall or edit a family.

Also, the material editor does not display correctly. I have custome materials imported from 2012 and I have no material options to put cost, manufacturer, etc. Also, the paterns are numbers instead of images to pick from. See the attached image.

First Autodesk release the offical release just to find out it's still the Beta. Then we get the updated version and has these issues. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this slow down. I've installed it on 3 different computers, all with the same issues.

Any idea if a hotfix is coming out soon? I'm about to abandon 2013 and stick with 2012 which I hate to do but I can't afford to be half as productive as I was for the sake of using the latest software.

Forgot to add my hardware for the 3 computers I have it installed on.

Hardware: Dell Precision T3500 Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Intel Xeon 3.20GHz, 12 GB RAM, (2) Nvidia Quadro 2000 1GB RAM each.

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration?  Don't know that this is the issue, but when 2012 was released, I noticed it was significantly slower than previous versions and by going to the options>graphics> and unchecking use hardware acceleration solved the problem.

I wish it was that simple. The first thing I did after it was installed was check the graphics driver and settings. Got everything updated to its workable version and it was still the same issue. It's as if Revit is not utilizing multi-core. Everything I do in Revit (even changing tabs in the Ribbon) only uses one core of the processor while the other 3 stay idle. I can't figure it out.

I am also having the patterns display as numbers in the Material Editor. Is this a display issue or am I missing a setting with the new interface?

I also see you have the same "GraphicsSchema_localtype:Graphics Properties" label above the pattern area.

Makes me wonder if it isn't some issue with the file that is drawing this dialog box. I know my installation files are good, becuase I checked this out on two other machines running the same install base files.

Makes me wonder if there is something about the .ddl or .xml file drawing this dialog box.. I really don't want to re-install my entire system, but I may have to get this to work properly, unless someone else has a better idea.

I have unistalled and reinstalled Revit 3 times with no better results than the previous installs. I just found out that their is an update that will be released in the new few weeks that will "fix" this issue. We will have to see.

Found what worked for me, after pulling out what little hair I have left.

Did a complete uninstall of Revit following this procedure from Autodesk:

2013: How to Complete a Clean Install [Uninstall] of Revit products

Only problem is I am on Building Design Suite, so had to do some reasoning out the registry editing. Got lucky I guess.

After re-installing, I had no rendering library. I had to do some digging in the installer package, but I found the installation routine for the Materials Library at:

C:\Autodesk\Building_Design_Suite_Prm_2013_English_px86x64\Content\ADSKMaterials\2013\CM

Now the plain vanilla Revit installers should be in a similar location.

I don't know if just removing and re-installing the Material Library itself would fix the pattern display issue or not.

I'm sorry I made the transistion to 2013. The slowness and random crashing issues we've encountered are frustrating especially since the crashes do not create a recovery file. No i feel I have to save every 5-10 minutes to avoid losing work.

This solved the material editor issue with the patterns, general info and other things. It didn't fix how slow Revit runs but one less item to worry about.

I have also noticed the same issue. I pulled up a project from last semester, went to generic 3D mode with realistic on and tried to pan/orbit the site... so much lag. Then I noticed that only 1 core (out of 8) was doing most the work. I have a 8 core i7 965 processor with 6Gb of DDR3 ram which I am maxing out to 12Gb and although I dont have one of those nice Quadro NVIDIA cards I do have dual GTX 280's which are certified to work with Autodesk products which provides me with a 2560 x 1600 resolution on my 30 NEC monitor.

That sounds like what I'm experiencing. Every little thing I do chews up a single core to 100%. I use the align command a lot as I'm modeling rain screen panels. Even aligning a panel by a few fractions of an inch can take up to 30-60 seconds for Revit to realize what it needs to do and update the model. The whole time it is doing this, 1 core is maxed at 100% while the other 3 sit idle.

Hey John, Have you contacted Autodesk about this issue with core usage.  I think the more complaints they have the sooner we can get that servicepack for the 2013 version.  Until then we'll have to stay with 2012

I have and they can't replicate our problem. It was the same issue I had with the material browser. They couldn't replicate my problem, therefore the problem lies with my computer only. I only solved my material issue because someone else suggested a clean uninstall on thread. After it fixed my problem I informed Autodesk and they marked as a solution to try if others have the same issue. But like I said, if they can't replicate the problem, then it's not their software that is causing the problem. They use to not be this way, seems like they are looking for the users to solve the problems and tell them how to fix it for them. I don't agree with it and it's not that I'm going to go somewhere else but it sure does leave a bad taste in your mouth when you don't get as much help as you should from a software developer and that software is your lifeline for your business. Ever try to explain to management what the problem is and why your department is experience a slow down due to software issues. My boss thinks that Autodesk and AutoCAD are two different software companies. It's not easy to explain to them that they just spent thousands of dollars upgrading software that is making us less productive. Hey John,

Update to the latest troubleshooting with Revit 2013.

1)  Installed the program on a completely different platform (AMD A8-3520M with Radeon GPU, 6Gb Ram, Win 7 x64) and still have the 1 Core problem leading to "massive lagging".

2)  Autodesk put a service pack out for Revit 2013 about 4 weeks ago and this still did not fix the problem.

3)  Autodesk has completely removed Revit 2013 from student downloads (at least on my end), this could be a sign they know something is wrong with the code and are rebuilding the entire Revit 2013 suite.

Didn't know about the student downloads. I'm working with the support team and I'm supposed to record for them a 20minute block that records my commands and what Revit is doing and give it back to them so they can figure out exactly what going on. Hi, my Building Design Suite is the same! Very slow! I think this Design Suite is an excellent idea if it works? I have tried three computers none of which are slow! I used Revit 2012 and 2013 with them all with no problems.! Wish I had some spare hair to pull out! Like the other guys! Fed up of Revit locking up! Most simple tasks are taking far to long to do what was once a quick and easy in Revit! I would not recommend the Building Design Suite for anyone to work with  at the moment!
