access temporary hide/isolate programmatically?

Is it possible, given an IList<element> to programmatically temp hide/isolate using the same function as the "sunglasses" icon? I have been searching to no avail.

The View Class provides access to methods like HideCategoryTemporary/HideCategoriesTemporary and HideElementTemporary/HideElementsTemporary and similarly IsolateCategoriesTemporary/IsolateCategoryTemporary and IsolateElementsTemporary/IsolateElementTemporary.
